contd :- -3- Experiments with side steering tube springs are going on the whole time. It is possible that we shall wish to make modifications to the 1500 lbs. either as regards the strength or initial set, but at the moment, keeping in mind the real reason for altering the steering, the 1500 lbs. spring is in our opinion the best we can have in spite of Sales criticism. We very much doubt the results obtained from the rough tests made by Sales on side steering tube springs. It is possible from the manner in which the springs are fitted to get wide variation in results. If we had known Sales were going to conduct experiments we could have given them the particulars + see Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/RmL/LG7.7.26. We recommend that in cases where Sales wish to alter the standard, they should demonstrate the improvement they expect to gain in the same manner as the Expl: Dept: do before a change is made. We shall always be ready to rush the standardisation of any improvements which Sales can show. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} attc. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}4/LG27.4.26.
