ORIGINAL [redacted] FROM R.{Sir Henry Royce} R2/M29. 9. 25. C. to - [redacted] HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} [redacted] NEXT PHANTOM FOR FRANCE. +8940a +8770 +82420 This must wait for the improvements lately specified. They are as follow:- (1) Derby has produced the front axle very much heavier than designed, and now we know of the extra importance of keeping down the weight, we have decided to make certain simple modifications, machining and scraping the extra heavy parts, to get them down to less than the original design weights. (2) Back tank filler, and large double filters. (3) Autovac with back flow valve, less space, and gauge over openings to air and induction. (4) Overhead oiling - less pressure and improved drilling. (5) Lighter flywheel. (6) Con. rods with bushes in big ends. (7) Carburetter arranged not to drain back down throat. (8) Valve glands packed with asbestos string grummets. (9) Slipper flywheels dowelled together. (10) Modified battery ignition to exclude breather gas, and improve ventilation. (11) Control balls fixed in levers as LeC. 2118. (12) Instead of friction to steady magneto sleeve we have suggested a spring. This spring is in the direction of retard, and has about 5 lbs. effective pressure on magneto rocker.
