Re: PHANTOM & 20 H.P. CHASSIS. LEAD OF PETROL PIPE.

From time to time we hear of isolated complaints of shortage of petrol.

I have personally experienced this on both 40/50 and 20 h.p. cars where it has certainly not been due to dirt or fluff in the carburettor jets. I think there can be little doubt that these cases are due to an air lock in the petrol line between the autovac tank and carburettor.

Examination of the lead of pipe shows that it is not difficult when working about the engine to bend the petrol pipe so that it will be liable to be choked with an air lock and it is believed that the likelihood of this could be materially reduced if more care were taken in making the slope of this pipe a perfectly even one from tank to carburettor.

This particularly applies to the 20 h.p. where the lead across the dash board is far too flat. Will you please take up this matter with the Departments concerned so that the utmost may be obtained of the difference in hight between tank and carburettor in the case of both cars.

Will JLE.{J. Lee Evans - Chassis Test Manager} please have all cars carefully examined on their complete car test to make certain that the piping has not been bent at coachbuilders.
