SPORTS CAR

My dear BJ.,

BODY

The drawing and construction scheme is proceeding well for the body. It is now settled that DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} will visit several of the likely coachbuilders, and after choosing one or two we will give them all the help we can to make a success of the body.

I am satisfied with the shape and the list of accessories, which include windscreen front and back, metal tonneau cover, disappearing hood, wings, toolboxes, idea of rear end and carrying the spare wheel. At least we should have one completed as we have schemed it, and we are now seeking good construction for all the parts as far as they are special to this car.

ENGINE.

The testing of high speed running of this engine (at 3000 RPM.) we think has shewn it to be rough. I have decided definitely that we must modify the crankchamber, which will be rather a drastic alteration. In addition, we are lightening the crankpins and webs, con. rods, and pistons. There is no hope for it, but it means some delay, though I am sure it is necessary, and we shall be pleased with the results.

We are also altering the slipper flywheel to the G.1. pattern.

The result of all this is that we shall put up the torsional vibration period, which we are too near, and I believe is the cause of the roughness.

We shall strengthen the crankchamber against the forces
