To R.{Sir Henry Royce} from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to CJ. c. to E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c. to BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} (X424) hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}5/LG9.6.22. GOSHAWK 11. GEAR BOX VENT. X.4247. We have tested the ventilation scheme for a gear box made to LeC.1586. We find that after the engine has been run for a short time, oil commences to leak from the tubes. We have run with the plug out of the top of the box and find that with the gears running, the whole box is full of an oil emulsion. We think it would be very difficult to prevent the oil working out of any vent unless some protection is arranged. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
