3.B.50.

We are afraid that the new rear axle which you are expecting to be fitted to the above car will not be ready by the end of the month as requested.

As you know, we have a rear axle to the original specification, and the following is the general position of the new rear axle :-

1. New spring bracket details - drawings were only received on the 17th inst., and these necessitate alterations to the pattern. We are urging Messrs. Jessop.

2. New spring plates are required - forgings are expected today.

3. Axle tubes of thicker section are called for with cast iron brake shoes and drums. Forgings are on order but we have not yet received a promise for delivery.

The four pairs of tubes we have already received are machined, giving .125 section to suit aluminium shoes and drums.

4. New shock damper connecting links are also required. The D.O. are now detailing same. This probably means new forgings.

5. A request has been made for 10 x 41 ratio gears; these will take approximately three weeks to complete. Preference has been given to the 11 x 41 ratio gears for the Continental Chassis - 14.B.V.

6. All half shafts are machined to drawing, i.e. 40 m/m.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} We have no forgings available to produce 1.625 diameter as requested in your note of the 16th inst. - forgings are on order but we have no promise for delivery.

continued.
