CHASSIS - FLYWHEEL GUARD.
The flywheel guard as now used does not appear to be at all satisfactory.
The original idea of this guard, I believe, was to protect the chassis from the oil thrown from the clutch which at present it does not do. As a consequence, the oil is thrown on to the chassis and we have had actual experience of the wiring being seriously affected and damaged due to the oil.
A recent case of failure was due to the starter motor wires earthing due to the breakdown of the insulation.
We also have trouble with the pressure feed release tap, due we feel to the oil and grit which collects around the tap.
I feel that the points require your consideration and recommendations; unless the guard can be extended so as to be a protection against this oil, it can be disposed of entirely, as at present it is more nuisance than it is worth.
