BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} FROM E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} C. to BJ, WOR{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}, HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} E2/M22.10.27. INDIA S. CRANKSHAFT. X5010 In reply to your memo. BY8/G171027., we send you herewith LeC. 2480. giving remaining information for the above. We stopped some of the work on the final Sports Phantom to put this through, to enable you to get the modified crank forging in hand. We have removed weight from the crankpins by boring them out a larger dia., heavily chamfering the webs, and substituting a small oil feed pipe in place of the oil caps and enclosed oil etc in the crankpin bore. The crankshaft flange and oil flange are smaller in dia. than shewn on Sch. 961., and the rear main bearing is retained at its present width. The oil retaining collar has been arranged with its pumping edge within the bore of the end cover, and a dowel pin has been added as in the Phantom, to ensure the paper joint between the upper and lower halves of the cover being correctly placed.
