30.

i. 50 dives of 30 seconds duration each shall be made at 120 per cent normal rated speed for engines to be used in all airplanes except pursuit, which shall require in addition, 10 dives of 30 seconds duration each at 125 and 130 per cent normal rated speed. All tests shall be run at normal rated manifold pressure

j.{Mr Johnson W.M.} 15 minutes idling with propeller set as in Section VI, 5, A(1). During this idling run notes shall be taken of all missing cylinders as well as general engines operation. Immediately following the 15-minute period, the throttle shall be opened to normal rated power and speed. Notes shall be taken on the acceleration and time to clear all plugs.

k.{Mr Kilner} For engines having special features, such as multi-speed ratio superchargers, 2-stage supercharger, steeteras, special tests may be requir_d by the Pr curing Agency, but this testing time will be deducted from the appropriate items, Section VI 5A, so that the total time of the endurance test will not exceed 150 hours plus the tests specified in Section VI, 5B.

Note
Above endurance tests ordinarily are run on a fixed stand with a propellor to absorb the power output and cool the engine. The power output is determined by measurements of speed, fuel flow, and manifold pressure with reference to data obtained during the dynamometer calibration. The specific fuel consumption for each part of the test is the value which is guaranteed satisfactory for routine operation of the engine.

3. Brief check of power output and performance on a dynamometer.

4. Complete dismantling of the engine for inspection
