X.664. - CARE OF BATTERIES.
---------- -----------

We have this morning had a visit from Mr. H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} Dean Chief Draughtsman of the Chloride Electrical Storage Co., in connection with the section of our Instruction Book dealing with the care of accumulators, which section we submitted to them in accordance with their offer to give us any help we would like to have in this direction.

The result of this visit has been that we have received valuable information in connection with the care of batteries and that a number of points which have always been a little undecided are now settled up.

The points referred to are those more particularly in connection with the first charge of an accumulator received unfilled and are as follows:-

(1) FIRST CHARGE.

An accumulator, contrary to the usual instructions to which one has been used in the past, after being filled with acid of specified density, should be allowed to stand for 12 hours to allow the plates to soak before the first charge is commenced.
