To - from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} REF G8-10-20 ORIGINAL E7/G21/10/20. ARMOURED CAR TYRE PUMP DASH CONTROL E.F.C. X 4197 RE 40/50 H.P. TYRE PUMP MOUNTING. We send you herewith drawing No. Lec.1294 shewing the above. The control for this pump should be arranged at Derby to suit the armoured cars, and should be as shewn in the sketch below:- [SKETCH] Labels on sketch: PEG, RING, STOP, SPRING A WEAK SPRING TO KEEP PUMP DISENGAGED (TO DISENGAGE PUMP). When it is desired to engage the pump the ring shewn at the end of the wire on the dashboard should be lifted on to the peg immediately above it. This can be done with the engine turning, or not turning, owing to the presence of the spring "A". If the gears will not engage with the engine standing, the spring "A" will pull them into engagement the moment the engine commences to turn. The idea is that when the driver wishes to pump up he engages the pump gearing by turning over the engine with the electric starter. Some modifications to the Tyre Pump drawing Lec.1294 are shewn on Lec.1295, which modifications provide for an oil filler and drain. The connecting rod shewn on Lec.1294 is made for right hand rotation. As regards picking up oil for the big end, this should be reversed since the pump revolves in a left hand direction.
