Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} re 20/25 HP. EXHAUST SYSTEM. With reference to your Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wym{G. Harold Whyman - Experimental Manager}4/ KW.26.5.36., it is true that certain complaints of exhaust rattles have been due to the cause mentioned, namely, looseness of the stay from the intermediate pipe to the clutch casing. However, these complaints only account for eleven out of forty-seven complaints received last quarter. A further source of rattle which is confirmed by Cricklewood is from the suspension bracket on the third cross member. It appears that this bracket has a considerable forward inclination when cold to allow for expansion when hot. Trouble is experienced however, due to contraction or shrinkage of the "S" bend in service, with the result that the bracket comes hard on the cross member. This is a point which should receive attention. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Hd{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy}/SB{Mr Bull/Mr Bannister} Memo sent to E re these complaints Gord Wyman 9-6-36 | ||
