1328 11th March 1937. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std.20/AP. The British Thermostat Co.Ltd., Teddington Works, Windmill Road, Sunbury-on-Thames, MIDDLESEX For the attention of Mr.Martin-Hurst. Dear Sirs, We are considering the question of reverting to cooling water bypass thermostat control of our Bentley cars' cooling water temperature instead of our present shutter system. You have already supplied us with some thermostatic bellows when we were first experimenting with this scheme, but the bellows in question were expensive and we believe difficult to manufacture. What we should like to do would be to buy the thermostat as a complete unit and fit this into our casing - we would like you to make us up a suitable unit which could be fitted into our modified casing as shown in pencil on the enclosed blueprint. The size of the valve required is approximately 1 3/8" diameter and the temperature range is as follows - commence opening at 78°C - full open - (.250 lift) at a maximum temp of 90°C. If you can form some idea of what is required and determine the suitable size and length of bellows required etc. the writer would like to visit you on Monday or Tuesday of next week, to discuss the matter with you and decide on the form of the experimental unit. On hearing from you as to which of these dates will be convenient, the writer will arrange accordingly. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
