| To Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Cricklewood. Oct. 8th. 1936. My reports were not forwarded yesterday owing to my being held up at Kingsbury. I have been there again this morning and interviewed Capt. Frazer Nash. The following points were discussed :- (1) Steering. I told him definitely we should not alter the lean of pivots other than what is allowed for standard. I should not take the responsibility of the car taking charge. I promised to make the steering as positive as we do for the high speed French drivers, and he was satisfied. (2) Detonations. This was discussion at length and questions of cylinder head, induction pipes, carburetters, ignition, all came in. He was very keen on having the 3 1/2 litre induction pipe and carburetters, so I replied I could see no objection to him having same, although I told him there was nothing in it. However, he had an idea that the larger dia. pipe was not so good for carburation. The cylinder head was discussed. I told him the difference between the 3 1/2 and the 4 1/4 litre but laid stress upon the ignition governor. I promised to fit a new one. (We thoroughly cured Ferguson's detonation and made that car a real Bentley) therefore I cannot see why Frazer Nash's Bentley cannot be treated likewise. (3) Transmission Rattle shunting in garages etc. He is not forcing the issue re damperbut would like the chunking in the drive lessened, also when declutching. I therefore propose the fitting of the damper. I put it to him that in some cases it was unnecessary weight and he agreed. (4) Dynamo. Keeps failing to charge. We shall investigate this complaint. | ||
