re: COMPLAINTS OF PHANTOM III OVERHEATING
---------------------------------

We thank you for your Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std.I/Mh.{M. Huckerby}9.10.37
We are pleased to learn that we did not return to Works
3.MK.VI cores. We note however from your memo that we returned
one which you state was dismantled from chassis 3.AZ.20 Paris
Trials car.

We are still rather puzzled that the original
matrix which we removed from 3.AZ.20 on the 6.8.37 could have
been a MK.VI type having 44 waterways, because this car has
been in service in France since the 19.8.36.

We are now wondering whether the Order
Office also gave you incorrect information about the matrix
of this car.

It may be that some confusion has arisen
at the Works owing to the following:

In the past we ordered two radiator matrix's
from the Works for 3.AZ.20. The first one which we received
had to be sent to Aix-les-Bains to be fitted to 3.AZ.52 (Rothschild
we then ordered another matrix which we fitted to 3.AZ.20 on
the 6.8.37.

The reason why we did not send you a
report was because we thought that the matrix removed was one
of the early MK.5 type because the water temperature easaly
reached 100° C. when the car was pushed during a short run.

Are we to understand that some of the
very early Phantom III cars were fitted with MK.VI matrix's
having 44 waterways when they were dispatched from the Works.

Sr/VA.
