Harold Brooks. Messrs. Rolls Royce Ltd., Nightingale Road, Derby. Dear Sirs, For the Attention of the Chief Engineer. We make no apology for calling your attention to the merits of the Vortex Silencer because anything which will improve a product, and place it further ahead of its competitors without appreciably increasing its cost of production, is a matter of moment to the man responsible for its manufacture. The diagram on page 8 of the enclosed booklet shows clearly how simple the Vortex system of silencing is. No vertical baffle-plates. No sudden reversals of direction. Instead; a smooth, continuous, unobstructed progression of the exhaust gases and gradual deflation, until they are breathed into the air at practically normal atmospheric pressure. A full, technical description of the Vortex Silencer will gladly be sent on request. The only point we would make here, is that though a Vortex Silencer can be designed to modulate the exhaust noise of an engine to practically any required degree of silence, scientifically conducted tests have shown that the performance of a car when fitted with the Vortex Silencer is equal to its performance with an open exhaust pipe.
