Clutch

Replying to Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/NRC.{N. R. Chandler}7/R.26.7.37, we cannot at present give you anything further on the binding of the withdrawal mechanism with extreme heat for the following reasons.

I) It only occurs under very extreme conditions which we have agreed not to reproduce out of fairness to the clutch.

2) When it occurs, the heat and fumes coming from the clutch pit make it impossible to get right at the job.

3) It has recovered again by the time it is possible to get near enough to the job to inspect it.

We suspect, but it is only guesswork, that the trunnion sticks on the spiggot on which it slides.
We are hoping that when the clutch is finally dismantled there will be marks to indicate where the trouble arises.
