Y5840 Hotel de France, Chateauroux, Indre, France. June 7th, 1925. R To: "Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}" From: G.W.Hancock. Re Chassis 9 G.III. We have carried ballast, equivalent to two passengers, since starting the test. We have now got lead ballast to replace sand. The clearance between buffers and spring plates when loaded to normal is 1.7". Between centre bolt and buffer 1.6". The report on change speed lever - this has not got worse. I reported from a 40/50 HP. point of view in changing quickly on hills. The lever is not so readily moved as on standard 20 HP. or 40/50 HP. We have now fitted up the conrods to 93 NK, and the car has left this afternoon for Paris, for the following parts to be attended to : - All brakes relined. Drums to be skimmed up. O.S.R. spring to be changed. Rear lamp supplied. Head lamp glass to be replaced (broken). Spring & bolt for torque reaction damper N.S. (which have got lost). This was noticed on the last run. Will you please instruct the Time & Bonus office to pay Day at the rate of time and a third for last week's wages. He omitted to put time & a third on his sheet. On this morning's run the N.S. top leaf of the front spring broke approximately 1 1/2" from rear end on 9 G.III. We wired you as follows : - " Nine G three near side front spring top leaf broken - Hancock." We have receive invoice this morning advising us that springs have been despatched from Derby for 20 HP. We hope these will arrive soon as the car is held up. I have noted your letter of the 5th inst., and will report as soon as possible. Your query re engine power - we do consider that the engine has improved slightly in performance, as we can now attain 60 m.p.h. fairly often, where-as on our run down 60 m.p.h. was only attained with difficulty. | ||
