To Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to Mx.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} [Handwritten] X8350 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}3/LG14.10.25. CHASSIS 29-LC. [Handwritten] X8350 (struck through) [Handwritten] X8770 Referring to Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}3/M13.10.25 attached. When the first experimental EAC. cars were being run, 14-tooth axles were tried. We consider that they caused the cars to be too fussy and there was increased noise, and wear and tear. The cars fitted with 14-tooth axles were tried by Sales and the following remarks were passed :- [Handwritten] X8770 (struck through) "CWB1/EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}19.1.25 - The gear ratio of this car 14/52 bevels is considered unnecessarily low even with a body of this size and weight (saloon body - 52 cwts.) From previous experience the 15/52 gear is considered preferable." "BJ9/H2.2.25 - We prefer the 15-tooth axle although it is possible that some customers may eventually require a 14-tooth with very heavy bodies. We must of course demonstrate to customers with the same type of axle and chassis we shall supply to them." Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
