1339 MEMORANDUM ----------- I have read the correspondence relating to the proposition. Obviously the right people to approach on the subject are tyre specialists. In any event, without a test, I cannot imagine anyone being prepared to be interested in the project financially. One of the major problems in tyre life is the dissipation of heat. The poor contact between the inserted section and the main tyre carcase would undoubtedly aggravate this problem of heat dissipation. It is difficult to estimate how the friction joint would stand the load imposed upon it by centrifugal force, braking and acceleration. Remembering, however the impossibility of keeping steel studs in a tyre, the outlook does not appear to be promising. Once again a proposition like this, without experimental evidence to substantiate the claim, is one in which I personally would never be interested.
