Please vet this scheme & see if you have any comments. DB{Donald Bastow - Suspensions} [Typed] MYTH FRONT SUSPENSION PL.434 attached shows the steering tube joint for the Myth front suspension. It is essentially a scaled down version of the standard B.V joint, with certain simplifications and improvements. The water seal now has a synthetic rubber washer initially compressed instead of the spring of flat section strip with telescoping coils to hold the seal up against the ball joint body. The locking de-vice for the cap nut now consists of a cheese headed screw whose head fits in one of 12 scollops formed in the cap, and the tube adjustment is now locked by a lock nut instead of a pinch bolt; but this nut is extended over the tube beyond the threaded portion, so that any bending movement applied to the tube will still be taken on a plain portion of the tube and not where the thread creates local weakness. We have asked for an official recommendation for a Thompson tie rod ball joint as an alternative to the one shown on PL.434, but from the information already available it seems likely that the Thompson joint will be bulkier and heavier and it may not be possible to accommodate it in the space available. This will, however, be investigated definitely when the official recommendation has been made.
