HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} } FROM R.{Sir Henry Royce} C. to BJ. WOR.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} ORIGINAL R3/M28.11.27. X.8692 BATTERY IGNITION & PLUGS. Scrubbing tungsten contacts to LeC. 2460. are we believe now standard, with the improved spring (non fracture-easily detachable). We have no record of the thickness of spring and stress at requisite contact pressure = 1 1/4 lbs. Further experiments are going forward to prove if there are any advantages in - (1) Increased scrub. (2) Offset fibre giving slightly quicker break than make. (3) Distributor improvements - umbrella and non-tracking material (stabalite.) We are particularly anxious about (3) because (1) and (2) can only give us small improvement. X1812 What is stopping English makers from making porcelain ignition plugs equal to Champion, as we understand these are superior to anything on aero engines - i.e. most trying conditions.
