contd:- -2- production starts with the present instructions for Goshawk 11. there would be a considerable amount of scrap. The proportion of parts scrapped on production will be less as more experience is obtained on the experimental cars. If the Experimental Dept. were asked now, when material could be ordered for Goshawk 11. so that there would be the minimum amount of scrap, we should say it will be in six months time. This length of time is arrived at by assuming that it will be at least three months before we have two or three experimental cars which will satisfy R, CJ, Works, Sales Dept., and Test Dept. are good enough to be proved out for reliability. When we have our Goshawk models we should still insist that they ought to be run for 10,000 miles or three months under varying conditions before we could say the car was fit to be delivered to customers. We assume that we shall give the usual three years guarantee with these cars. We ought to anticipate that we are bound to get some nasty checks with the Goshawk before we are through with it. We know of no manufacturers who have been able to deliver to customers a new model until they have had one on the road for at least 12 months. There are a number of reasons why it should take us longer than most firms to prove a new type car. In order to speed up production of Goshawk 11, chassis we recommend the following procedure should be followed. We know that, before Goshawk 11. gets through to the customer we have got to satisfy the criticisms of Sales Dept., Test Dept., and the Works. We require these criticisms early. We want them now. In deciding whether Goshawk 11. parts are good enough, in most cases it is a matter of judgement. The springing, contd:- | ||
