To RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} X325 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}22/KW.31.12.34. Experimental Gearboxes We think it would be of material assistance if you could arrange for all gears fitted in experimental gearboxes of new types to be copper plated, so that when any question of noise arises the tooth bedding can be examined. This will enable us to separate ball race noise from gear noise. At the present moment the SpectreCodename for Phantom III gearbox fitted in the Vulture has a very noisy side shaft. We are proposing to run it on the rig to find out what is causing this and also what is causing the resistance to getting out of bottom gear and second speed.
