To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from BJ. c. to PN.{Mr Northey} X9770 BJ5/H18.9.24. RE: 98-NK. X.488 X 8950 [crossed out] X.9770. X.9680 [crossed out] PN.{Mr Northey} has shown me Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}2/LG3.9.24. as our suggestion that this car should be reserved for demonstration was originally made by me. A number of our officials including Rg.{Mr Rowledge} had particularly noticed the beautiful running of this chassis. We of course do not know [struck out text] whether this car has all the necessary qualities for high road speed and hill-climbing, but certainly so far as the other superlative RR. qualities are concerned such as silence, smoothness of running and silkiness and lack of engine vibration I have never been on a RR. car to compare with it. It is unfortunate, but very well known, that RR. cars do vary as regards these qualities, and one can by no means make sure of obtaining all these qualities fully developed in any one chassis. We do not know the actual reason that this car stands out above all others, but we do not want to lose it. Please let us know how soon you can conveniently part with this chassis and use another one in its place. This will enable us to test it for speed, hill-climbing, etc. and if it is good in these respects, we should certainly like to have it for demonstration. We do not think it is only the engine which is particularly good, but the transmission, etc. is also particularly satisfactory. B.J. | ||
