1124 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}2/R.{Sir Henry Royce} 24th June, 1939. Commander W. Helmore, Engineering Laboratory, CAMBRIDGE. Dear Helmore, Many thanks for your report on corrosion tests. I would like to come over to Cambridge on Wednesday of next week arriving at about 11.30, and would like to bring a Mr. North with me, who is an expert on filtration and who is very interested in cylinder bore wear problems in general. I am afraid it is too early for us to confirm that the results you obtained are representative of the wearing qualities of the various materials tested, because although we have now a number of engines running with different types of liner insert, getting wear figures is a somewhat laborious process, and we shall not begin to get results for another 12 months. We have, however, by measuring up a number of American cars which are used under London traffic conditions, confirmed that they can do no better than we can with normal cylinder iron. Yours sincerely, | ||
