- 3 - Exhaust cut-out. This has stuck open once, after using. The spring appears to have lost some of its tension, but this is the first occasion on which we have had to close it forcibly. It has functioned O.K. since. Exhaust snout. This is quite satisfactory, but this has been knocked in in one or two places by stones. Engine fabric coupling. This coupling, after 10,000 miles, shews three slight bulges. The fabric itself is quite sound, and I should say quite a satisfactory job. There are no signs of the rivets giving way. Pedals - to Sch.LOP. F.72359. These bearings are in a good condition. Clutch. This is working quite satisfactorily. We have had no further slipping. It is smooth in action & free from jaggers. A better clutch stop should be designed, as a sluggish stopping when hot is not what one would call satisfactory. We have tried various settings of clutch stop, to overcome this trouble, but have not been successful. Steering box suspension. Modified steering, including rocking shaft, etc., to L.O.P. F.72863 - this is quite O.K. We loose a very slight amount of oil out of steering box since, at your request, we changed from thin to thick oil. We do say, definitely, that the steering has not been affected by changing the oil. Steering at low speeds is still heavy. At high speeds we have noticed that the wobbles have decreased since fitting the new front road springs. The springs appear to have a lot to do with these wobbles - more so than changing a front wheel, which was out of balance. This is the conclusion that we have come to. Radiator & Shutters. Radiator is still O.K. The suspension of radiator - see our previous reports. Radiator shutters are still working satisfactorily. A slight rattle has developed from the vanes, and play has developed in actuating rod from dash to radiator. Gear box. Generally, this is O.K. There is a slight leak of oil from front & rear bearings, & the oil leaks from the tower when very hot. Starter motor chain has been adjusted two notches. Sphere. This appears to be quite O.K. We have not heard any knocking from this at all. Servo. Dismantled & examined. This was found to be in a good condition, & free from oil. | ||
