[End of Graph] This was done by taking the total heat flow to the jacket water with the system as arranged above and again with the reduced flow through the hot spot. Our apparatus was accurate to within about 1 1/2 per cent., but as the total heat flow was 3600 B.T.U/m. at 1500 r.p.m. it was difficult to detect any difference between full bore and restricted flow through the hot spot. A good number of tests to obtain an average value satisfied us that there was no appreciable increase when using the flow which gave us the maximum heating compared with using the full bore flow. It therefore seems that the heat added to the water for a given set of running conditions depends solely upon the boiler size. We have given the heat added to the cooling system in a curve expressed as a percentage of the total heat flow. The maximum value we find is approx. 6 1/2% at 2000 r.p.m. contd :- | ||
