FROM. Technical Director's Office. FORT DUNLOP. TO. Managing Director. D.R. Co. (India) Ltd. BOMBAY. Your ref. 13234/X.6. Our ref. WB.{Mr Brazier/Mr Bell}AGP.R.1.127. 12th. July. 1928. (Dict. 11th). Dear Sir Reginald, Many thanks for yours of the 22nd. June, regarding the Maharaja of Patiala's views, conveyed to us by Rolls-Royce Ltd. It is interesting to note that support is forthcoming for my surmise that the Maharaja's unfavourable opinion of Balloon tyres probably arises out of the fact that his cars are used for cross-country work in the course of hunting. For such purposes of use it is obvious that the advantages in the way of comfort which can be obtained by using Balloon tyres may be outweighed, and that the most suitable tyres for the purpose are those of the sturdiest construction obtainable, able to deal with the exceptionally harsh treatment which they are almost certain to receive. This being so, it may be that the Maharaja will find most suitable for this purpose 33 x 5 tyres the oversize for 32 x 4½ Flat Base rims. We are passing a copy of your remarks on this subject to the Rolls-Royce Company at Derby, who may already be in touch with the Maharaja in England. Yours faithfully, P.S. The tyre referred to is of course of the Reinforced for Heavy Service type. | ||
