We have duly received, as asked for, the box of various spring washers in use. It was found that the single washers were made by the winding ribbon steel round a mandril as in making coil springs. This has the effect of distorting the section of the washer so that the thick-ness of the coil on the inner diameter is much greater than on the outer, and the nut does not pull down on a flat surface. The proportions also of the single washers of different types varied within wide limits. Mr. Royce would like you to make up a sample set of washers in all the sizes that we use, to the formula given in the diagram below:- D = dia of bolt (Diagram with dimensions) 2D + .05" .25D 1.05D + .005 The intention is to standardise this type of washer as far as possible for all purposes. To avoid distortion of the section the new washers should be stamped from sheet steel. They should not have turned up ends, Contd. | ||
