GOSHAWK II. SIDE STEERING TUBE.

The springs which are actually on order for the above give 300 lbs when set up in their normal position.

We were requested to try experimentally a side steering tube with springs which only gave 200 lbs under normal load, with .150 possible movement.

We have also received from Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} a further drawing which shows the set-up spring 175 lbs in its normal position, with .125 possible movement either way.

We have arranged the .125 movement that R.{Sir Henry Royce} asked for originally, satisfactorily on our drawings, but as pointed out, the springs which are actually on order are such as to give 300 lbs when set up in their normal central position.

I would like to know whether you are satisfied that these springs should remain on order or whether you think it would be advisable to replace the stronger springs with lighter ones. It appears to me that it is better to leave the strong springs on order until we know definitely whether the lighter spring is satisfactory or not.
