TO BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} FROM DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c. to Ed.{J. L. Edwards} c. to Rd. c. to HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} ORIGINAL DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}1/M12.12.23. 40/50. FOUR WHEEL BRAKES. FRONT AXLE. X9940 X9420 We send herewith N.scheme 1716. shewing our proposals for gaining increased lock in spite of the front wheel brakes. It will be seen that all that is necessary is to set the lower operating lever thus and producing a bigger inclination on the operating rod. By this means we believe we can get 40° of L.H. lock, but as we have reason to think that some of the actual details are not precisely like those from which this drawing was traced, we should be glad if Derby would verify this point. We have shewn a new type of ball joint. The original one can be used; the new one has the advantage of being rather smaller. We have shewn an alternative type of pull off spring as the original one was criticised, but we think it very possible that you will prefer the tension spring originally instructed, as being less conspicuous than this new one.
