LES

Dear Sirs,

For the attention of Mr.Leslie.

Experimental Springs for Bentley Car - Your order No.78098. dated 15.2.35.

Further to our letter of 9th inst., we have taken up with our Research Laboratory the question of the failure of one of the Two - 4 Plate Front Springs, both of which you returned to us after testing on your Bumping Rig.

Although both Springs are normally heavily stressed, and the stresses in the Maximum Bump Positions may of themselves be very close to the fatigue limit of the steel, it is clear from our Research Laboratory report, that the position of the fitters' stamp mark opposite the edge of the pad on plate 3, was instrumental in initiating the failure on your bumping rig.

Under these circumstances we have decided to replace the 2 - 4 Plate broken springs with entirely New ones and to Drawing No. 122.A. - free of charge. The work is well in hand and we intend to deliver them to you one day next week.

We assure you that in future every care will be taken to avoid a repetition of this nature.

Yours faithfully,
THOS.FIRTH & JOHN BROWN LTD.,

H.W.Stokes.

for Director.
