To R.{Sir Henry Royce} from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} C. Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} C. L. Ds. C. Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} BENSPORT G.R. It will be seen from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/GWH{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux}'s last daily report that a piece of the skirt has broken off one of the Bensport pistons. This failure is of an entirely different character to the one where the head came off, or to the previous one in which the gudgeon pin circlip failed. The last piston which has failed in the Bensport is a standard 25 HP. die cast piston which has been used on that car for a considerable time. We have not, so far, had a chance of examining the piston. It is evident, however, that some modification is necessary. We have had a telegram from Chateauroux today saying that the differential in the back axle has broken. We have no further particulars. We are arranging to bring the car back to Derby. The differential on the Bensport is of Peregrine pieces. As soon as we have received the parts which failed, we propose to come to West WitteringHenry Royce's home town to discuss the matter.
