1166. To BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Copy to Ba. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} RHO. HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/FD.{Frank Dodd - Bodies} Bentley Jack Pads. It has been considered that the rear jack pad on the road spring is too close to the tyre to permit of the use of complete Parsons chains with safety and it is desired that we should supply you with a scheme showing the jack pad moved back 2". We send herewith LeC.5560 showing a revised jack pad in the new position. We regret that circumstances prevented us from moving back the jack pad the amount specified and we have had to be satisfied with 1 1/2 ins. On looking at the car we see that this gives us over 3 ins. clearance between the pad and the tyre, which we consider should be ample. On LeC.5560 we show how the existing forging can be packed out to be used un-altered. We also show how the dies may be altered and surface metals machined off if this course is preferred. There is one thing yet to be done and that is for the Expl. Dept. to tell us whether the present jack has sufficient lift to raise the tyres from the ground when jacking on the rear road spring 1 1/2 ins. the rear shackle. We suggest that nothing be done until we have received from them the reports of their test. Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} Att:LeC.5560. | ||
