To Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Wst. 1204. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Wst.2/AP.6.8.37 ORGANISATION OF CHASSIS ELECTRICAL SECTION. The people who are working on Chassis Electrical Testing in the Laboratory are as follows:- C.A.Pignatt - Dynamos, regulators, batteries. J.Jones & M.Castledine - Ignition and starter motors. R.Hart - All accessories, wiring and switch gear. Mr.Child, who has been assisting me, has been handed over all correspondence etc. and files relating to chassis work and is au fait with experiments now in hand. Unless you have other arrangements we suggest that he is put in charge of the chassis electrical section, with Mr.Pignatt as Senior Assistant. Jones and Hart are quite intelligent young men, but Castledine is a privileged apprenticeship and would most likely be moved from the Laboratory after a short time to another section of the works. If it is possible to get Frank Kennington over here I think it would be an excellent idea to bring him on the job on ignition problems in general, and transfer Castledine to another Department as he would not be of much use in the long run. I should always be available, of course, to give assistance when necessary for a short time until the transfer is working smoothly. With regard to the Laboratory, Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} requires this to be split up as far as possible into two sections and the proposal is that HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr}'s men should be moved out of the Lab. as soon as possible into the Shop, the wall between the two Departments knocked down and the available space more or less divided. Until HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr}'s men are moved we have made arrangements for the Pyrometry job, which has now passed out of our hands, to be transferred to the new Millwright's Shop, and the car section housed as far as possible temporarily where the Pyrometry benches were. You may consider it more expedient, and we would recommend, that the car electrical section should be moved nearer to the Garage and the Chassis Erecting Bays in the Shop, as much continued | ||
