1297. SECRET. To Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} c. to Ev{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}/HH. [text crossed out] Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}8/JH.19.3.40. A.C. Air Silencer for B.60 Engine with Stromberg Down-Draught Carburetter. We attach herewith 2 prints of PL.151 2 sheets, showing an air silencer fitted to the B.60 engine with down-draught Stromberg Carburetter. This has been drawn in particular for the Silver Ripplet 2.R.2. although we suggest that the scheme should be standard on all B.60 engines and any increase in capacity for the larger bores should be obtained by increased length, as increased diameter is obviously impossible. The air silencer shown is that provided by Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Wym.{G. Harold Whyman - Experimental Manager} obtained from Wraith III. It is intended that prints of this scheme should be sent to the makers in order that they may modify the standard model to fit the carburetter in question. When the final air silencer is available it will be sent by Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Wym.{G. Harold Whyman - Experimental Manager} to Ev{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}/HH. for details to be made, but in the meantime we are asking Ev{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}/HH. to make a list of parts for this section wherein the air silencer has no number or drawings and is called for as being supplied by the makers. We have shown in full the air silencer facing slightly forward but with the advent of the filler in the rocker cover this position is unavailable and we recommend that the position in which the silencer points towards the dash board be the one we adopt. We shall accordingly add the necessary bosses to the die cast alum rocker cover for this position. We attach herewith, also two prints of PL.147 which is a detail of the Wraith III air silencer as supplied to us by Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Wym.{G. Harold Whyman - Experimental Manager} Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} | ||
