Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/hm.{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} Re: 35 EX. - - - - We have completed the modification to the cross steering tubes. The initial load at the opposite end of the rod was 3 - 3½ lbs in each case as against ½ lb before dismantling. On dismantling the ball connections, we found an emulsion of phosper bronze and oil in every case. This seems to have occurred when the bottom friction pad remained in one with the ball and rotated on the steel seating. There had been signs of the pad picking up between these two faces. This is obviously wrong and it appears that some form of positive fixing should be resorted to. Enclosed is a rough sketch. H.F. Hamilton. HFHamilton | ||
