| To Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} From G.W.H. Hotel de France, Chateauroux(French test region), FRANCE. 1st May 1932. RE. OUR VISIT TO LE CANADEL(Henry Royce's French residence). Upon our arrival we found Sir Henry ill in bed, consequently he was unable to try or see the car. I gave him the general impression we had gained with the car during our run down. Sir Henry was very annoyed at the letter he received from you re. missing fire of the 25 HP car on the pick up. To sum up the position he was not agitating that the points should be set .020", rather he was wanting to get at the trouble why the misfiring occurred. I therefore carried out the following tests for him. Plugs set .030" gap. (1) Ran on magneto to see whether the same trouble existed, this was so but more pronounced. (2) Took all the H.T. wires out of the tube, separating them carefully, to find whether the cause was due to induced current. Missfiring still maintained. (3) Changed the Lodge Sparking plugs to K.L.G.'s with .030" gap - a perfect cure, no misfiring on either battery or magneto. We therefore came to the conclusion that the cause was due to either one or two faulty Lodge plugs. R's idea at first was that with higher compression and induced current, sparking took place before the piston reached T.D.C. We think however, as stated, the trouble was due to faulty plugs. R's LUGGAGE. It was decided that we should bring all the luggage possible there was to spare up to Chateauroux(French test region), and then take it down to Le Havre and meet Dodd, when R's illness permitted him to travel, which he hopes to do in two weeks time. We have therefore carried out part of the arrangement and shall fulfil it upon hearing from Dodd. RE. 19-EX. SYNCHROMESH GEARBOX. We are still having trouble with the 3rd and 4th gears coming out of mesh, also, we have once more had trouble with the selector shaft for the 3rd and 4th not centralising itself. This was very peculiar because when it happened I had engaged the first gear and upon coming into neutral could not get into any other gear, the selector shaft for the 3rd | ||
