X964 Re accumulation of dirt in flywheel guard and failure of clutch (1378 - Mrs Fitzgerald) Mr Johnson 8.7.12. TBB7/L8712. With reference to the attached matter, I have discussed the point with Mr Spinney and he agrees that the slot provided in the flywheel guard (for the purpose of raking out nuts and washers etc which fall down into the guard) can be conveniently reduced and this modification will be carried out. We do not think this will entirely overcome the difficulty of mud finding its way into the engine guard under very bad conditions, and it may be necessary to fit some sort of door. Even this would not entirely prevent the mud from entering. As regards the possibility of such an accumulation of mud causing the flywheel to heat or burn out the clutch, I think this is hardly possible, as any [Handwritten text on left margin] 2647 To Barrington.
