RECEIVED JUL 12 1930 H [crossed out] ROY. {Sir Henry Royce} [/crossed out] [crossed out] C. WOT. [/crossed out] [crossed out] C. SH. [/crossed out] C. Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X44-9 BY1/G.24.7.30. X4429 VALVE STEEL. ------------ As I explained on two previous occasions it is not possible for us at this stage to issue any instructions to use H.R. Crown Steel on the inlet valves in place of S.L.V. Experiments are in hand to demonstrate whether we can use the steel, (and I believe we shall be able to ultimately) but until we have ample evidence that it will cause no trouble the matter must rest as it is. Firths were in no sense responsible for us adopting the steel, we did it on our own initiative without consulting them. BY. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} BH | ||
