ACTUATION BOX - PAHNTOM STARTER. X.8650. X.7650.

When adjusting the cbutch stop on chassis 7-EX recently, while you were down here, we found the actuating box mechanism hung up, and rattled the starter dog clutch.
On investigation it was seen that the moving parts of the box merely required oiling, but there was insufficient provision to enable this to be done without removing the lid{A. J. Lidsey} of the box containing the toggle.

We send you herewith drawing LeC.2256 shewing an alteration to provide a means of lubricating all the moving surfaces by means of one oil cup . The oil is introduced through the upper portion of the lid{A. J. Lidsey} by the boss of the oiler standing somewhat below the inner surface, the lubricant drops into a recess formed in the top of the toggle box, lubricating the upper bearing of the slider at this point.
IT then runs down through holes provided and lubricates the lower portion of the slider, together with the trunnion bearings. Oil will now leak over the end of the slider, lubricating the fork joint nearby, but it will especially run down a small groove provided on the slider itself, drop into the bottom of the fork which has been made semi-circular, and from thence flow into a special groove milled on the back of the actuating lever to convey the oil to the lever point.

We should be glad if you would instruct these alterations for test and standardisation.

Contd.
