( 8 ) FLEXIBLE FRONT ENGINE MOUNTING LEC 4462 EX 19475 BRACKET ON FRAME EX 19827 STUDS F 87575 RUBBER BLOCK. The front mounting of the engine gave no trouble. Brackets on frame and on engine case remained firm. The rubber blocks did not deteriorate. The mounting was flexible without excessive movement taking place. The solid aluminium blocks and steel caps sent out arrived too late to be tried for effect on steering. The strengthened stay from clutch case to cross in frame did not collapse as previously. BONNET & BONNET LOCKS LOP E 87195 LEC 4529 E 87415 LEC 4681. There was very little chattering of the Bonnet. The nex type fastners were easy to manipulate and gave no trouble. The locks were satisfactory. IGNITION PLUG TERMINALS & COVERS TO E/LID.{A. J. Lidsey}I/HP 23.9.35. We received these plug terminals after 6,800 mileage. Before fitting we tried them as suggested. We found that with the long skirt, the inaccessability did not warrant fitting them inside the vee. The short skirted plugs are not too accessable but can be got on and off. We therefore fitted the short skirted plug terminals in the vee, and the long skirted to the outside plugs. We reported that one of the brass screws inside the bakerlite terminal broke off during the first day's running, and we considered the screw was too weak. We have not had any further failure with the plug terminals. RL 14 ignition plugs were used. LOUVERED BONNET SIDE RESTS LEC 4703. We have not had extreme heat to say whether any advantage has been gained by fitting the louvered bonnet side rests. On the mechanical side, they have remained firm and are satisfactory. UNDERSHEETS. LEC 4685. Owing to the high oil temperatures of the Gearbox, it was suggested that we should revise the undersheets. We have carried out tests with various undersheets. The undersheet for the clutch casing we dispensed with, as actually the case itself does not need to be protected from dirt. The Gearbox being seperate, there are no working parts that require protection. With the removal of this undersheet however, leaves the side engine tray in an unfinished state. The N.S. does not require very much alteration, a stiffening piece at the end, to brace it up, will be necessary. The O.S. tray, we had to revit a deflector piece on, and make it fit closer round the bottom half drain cock, to prevent sludge from being thrown up to the engine. | ||
