General Instructions

I\u00b2t is not always necessary to dismantle your springs, but it is desirable to make a thorough inspection in case you may have a broken leaf or a broken centre bolt, but if there is no need to dismantle your springs, you then proceed as follows :—

(1) Loosen nuts on spring clips and centre bolt, then take out the stirrup clip bolts. When all is free, jack up the car to take the weight off the springs, then, with the aid of a screwdriver, open the leaves and insert your “ Rectaskid ” race. Do not hammer into position, for the race will slide in freely. Hammering may cause damage.

(2) When Rectaskid are in position, that is when close to the centre bolt, let the weight go and proceed to tighten up all round. Care must be exercised in tightening up; if you cannot get the stirrup clip bolts back, just draw the holes a little and use 1/2" bolts, but do not tighten the stirrup clips too tight, as Rectaskid need freedom.

NOTE.—In the illustrations all springs and leaves are indicated in BLACK. The illustrations of Rectaskid and their positions between the leaves are indicated in RED.

Illustration 1.—This shows Half Elliptic spring (either front or rear) in which four half Rectaskid need to be fitted. In the instance of Light Cars, only four half Rectaskid are necessary on rear springs as shown (two in each rear spring—between first and second leaves only). In the instance of Heavy Cars, however, sixteen half Rectaskid are required—four in each front spring and four in each rear spring.

Three-quarter Elliptic Springs are treated in the same manner as Half Elliptic.

Illustration 2.—This shows Ford Springs with two half Rectaskid in front Transverse and four half Rectaskid in rear, and the same number are necessary for the Ford 1-ton.

All light cars with Transverse springs are dealt with in the same manner as the Ford.
