1225 W/S. C. from Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}4/R.9.10.37. PRICE'S OIL. Replying to C/C.7.10.37., we discussed the matter of Price's oil when Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} was last at Derby. We pointed out that it was quite impossible to recommend this lubricant as long as hydraulic tappets were fitted to the P.III, and that even when these were removed, we did not consider Price's oil would suit the Phantom III filter system as well as other oils. However, when the scheme which has just completed 15,000 miles in France and dispenses with hydraulic tappets is on production, we should be prepared to re-consider the question. We should like to point out that whereas every other oil manufacturer at once endeavours to alter his product when they meet with a criticism from us, so far as we are aware Price's have done absolutely nothing to overcome the sludge trouble.
