To Ep.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} from EFC} c. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} EY. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} c. Hm.{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} X4118 EFC2/T??.1.24. Y4198 X.4357. 20 HP. MAKE & BREAK IGNITION CAM FAILURE. These failures are apparently due to cams which have got through incorrectly hardened. With a correctly hardened cam, the normal wear on a 10,000 mile test, particularly with occasional greasing of the cam, is a matter of only a few thous. (See our report EFC1/T9.7.23.). A further test will now be made of the scheme of a cam lubricated by wicks, though previous tests have shown that this self-lubricating scheme is not really satisfactory. EFC.
