X.4357. 20 HP. MAKE & BREAK IGNITION CAM FAILURE.

These failures are apparently due to cams which have got through incorrectly hardened.
With a correctly hardened cam, the normal wear on a 10,000 mile test, particularly with occasional greasing of the cam, is a matter of only a few thous.
(See our report EFC1/T9.7.23.).

A further test will now be made of the scheme of a cam lubricated by wicks, though previous tests have shown that this self-lubricating scheme is not really satisfactory.
