1010 Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Smth. c.c. to E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Smth3/R.8.2.37. Motor Frames. We have visited the Projectile & Engineering Co. of Battersea to discuss the question of motor frames. These people claim to be the biggest and best frame makers in England. They make the Austin, Morris, Standard & Humber frames, and have very up-to-date plant. Whilst we saw no frames there of the finish we should want, they were confident they could give it us. The Humber Snipe (26 H.P.) sells for £6 or £7. We asked them if we could make the Wraith frame for £13, but they were doubtful. They were, however, sure that they could make it for less than £20. It would take them 4 months to make the first frame from production dies. We asked them if they could make the original frame which was proposed for Bentley III, with a box section made up of two channels fitting into one another. They said they could. Rubery Owen's have said they could not. We recommend that they should be asked up here to see the Wraith frame so that they can see exactly what we have in mind, and can make recommendations for cheapening it, and quote for the job.
