Contd. -4- EFCB/T12.11.21. reported in connection with the Goshawk, it will be seen that the field and armature resistances are considerably greater for the small motor. So also the ratio of field resistance to armature resistance. Further, the brush contact area for the small motor is actually larger than that of the large motor. We therefore think that the brush contact area is insufficient for the satisfactory operation of the current this motor demands, and it is difficult to understand how a motor like this would give satisfactory operation in practice. The new Chief Engineer of the C.A.V. Company, Mr. W.M. Glaser, rather agreed with us on this point and stated that he intended to go into the matter of motors with a view to an improve- ment in this respect. In the circumstances we are not proposing to fit this motor to the 40/50 chassis for trial. EFC. | ||
