LONDON, N.W.10.

For the attention of Mr. Ward.

Dear Sirs,

Confirming the arrangements made during the visit of Mr. Martindale and Mr. Dodd, you have agreed to stiffen the scuttle of 10.B.V. Coupé by using a standard steel scuttle reinforced by a second deep box section inverted U member, by gussets between the door pillars and cross member, and by more rigid fixings between pillars and body sill. We will come down to try the car before the panelling is added.

The following are some of the strength figures we quoted:-

lbs-feet per degree.

Bentley II frame & dashboard } 365
Bentley V frame } 1,400

Bentley II steel saloon } 1,000
Bentley V " " } 2,800
Bentley V coupé } 1,800

Thus the new frame without dashboard is 4 times as stiff as the old frame with dashboard, and the new coupé is nearly twice as stiff in torsion as the old saloon, indicating that torsional rigidity does not stop shake.
