Dissatisfaction with induced friction on front axle pivots and questioning its necessity to counter steering wobble.

I dislike immensely the extra friction on the front axle pivots as we have been forced to arrange it on N.Scheme 2200. Naturally we should prefer to do without the friction altogether because of the difficulty of steering and uniform lubrication, and the unsatisfactory complication involved. Is it necessary with medium pressure tyres to provide so much friction against low speed steering wobbles, or do not these tyres, owing to their longer surface on the road, tend to stop low speed steering wobbles? As an alternative can we not put sufficient pressure upon the 4 steering balls to take the place of this undesirable complication shewn on theabove mentioned drawing? . R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
